Wayne suggested that we move to another area where we had heard the first group of gobblers. I was wearing a Black Mathews long-sleeve shirt as I thought we were going to set up a blind and hunt out of that. WRONG! Wayne wanted to do the “Running& Bowing” which is really tough with a bow for ANY kind of animal, especially turkeys.

The post Turkey and Hog bowhunting with Jim Miller, from Tex Mex Outdoors appeared first on .

I can’t be positive, but I’m pretty sure it is Mr. Wide Nine polishing his impressive rack. My heart starts to pound. I ready my bow and picture where he will come out of the thicket. Time slows to a crawl as my body starts to quiver. I finally hear him start to tromp my way, but I also hear another noise...an unfamiliar noise.

The post Bowhunting for Illinois Whitetails with Chase Lambin, Part 4 appeared first on .

We forget that it’s Sunday night and most every store in town is closed. The one place open is the local butcher. We drop by and through a large swinging door a grizzled old man strides in wearing a bright yellow rubber apron, big black rubber boots, a black ski cap, completely covered in blood, and holding an eight inch meat cleaver.

Illinois whitetail hunting is extremely difficult since the majority of the season is archery only, with the exception of two weekends for shotgun or muzzleloader. Bating is not allowed, and neither are center fire rifles. (Setting up 100 yards from a feeder and sitting in a nice cozy blind like you would in Texas is out of the question.)

The post Hunting Illinois Whitetails with Chase Lambin, part 1 appeared first on .

I immediately felt a sharp pain in my left knee, I heard a loud smack! The arrow hitting the buck, but the pain in my left knee was immense, as if someone had hit me in the knee cap with a ball ping hammer! My bottom cam had come in contact with my knee then threw the arrow hard left...

The post Timber Hawk Pro Staffer scores big at the Oak Creek Ranch appeared first on .

The buck barreled through the fence and tried to make a last dash, but hit the dirt after making it only forty yards. I had to sit down for a moment take it all in. I had just harvested the biggest antelope of my career with my bow! I boned out the antelope and, amazingly, I was able to pack out all four quarters, extra meat, all my gear and my bow into (and onto) my new Timber Hawk Gut Hook waist pack. The fully loaded rig weighed seventy-one pounds.

The post Antelope Hunting with Tyler Ferris, 2012 appeared first on .

We were actually traveling in the ranger and going to put up a ground blind and my cameraman sitting in the back of the ranger spotted a bull feeding, we stopped, started our stalk to see this bull that my cameraman had seen. The bull was a blue, black and white beautiful Spanish Fighting Bull with lots of cover around him for a stalk, and the wind was in our favor. As we started the stalk I seen this could be the stalk we was looking for, the bull was at this time 70 yards from us, lots of yucca, retama, cactus, mesquite and brush piles, perfect. With a cross wind from the southeast and about 10 mph I knew we had cover, for movement. We were within about 50 yards of the bull and I looked to my left, dread! There stood 2 bulls about 70 yards looking at us, I knew this could get real interesting quick based on things of the past.

The post TORO!

I could hear the “Thwack,” but he did not show any sign of being hit, and I could see him make it over into the next gully. I sat there for above five minutes, then walked down to where I had shot him to look for blood. I only found one speck of blood; I was dumbfounded as I sat there waiting for half-an-hour. After what seemed like hours I made my way down to the ridge I’d seen him cross over. Since there was no blood I was following his tracks but lost them once he met up with the big herd. I slowly worked down the gully, I had made it about fifty yards, looked to my left and there he was!

The post Elk Hunting with Tyler Ferris, 2012 appeared first on .
